Andy's Photo Album
This is the earliest picture I can find. 1973. I shot this monster 7 point the same year I took my first deer ( a spike) with a bow. I was trying my own taxidermy work at the time. I've since given that up.
This photo was taken in 1983. This was a result at my first attempts at rattling. I rattled in the buck on the right at 9AM after sitting in the rain since before daylight. As soon as the rain stopped I clashed my little forkhorn muley antlers together and he came charging in. I still wasn't convinced that the rattling had done it until that afternoon in the same tree-stand I rattled in the buck on the left.
This was my first really nice buck with a bow taken in Llano county Texas in 1986.
Fall of 1989 around my house in Blanco, Texas. My young daughter Kellie with me.
Fall 1989 Webb County 6x6 grossed 154". My Dad got us invited on a 1 1/2 day hunt. I knew what a rare opportunity it was as I was bowhunting a ranch closeby and knew the bucks were starting to rut. I wouldn't get out of the blind all day. Rattling and grunting brought this brute in. It was the first really big buck for me.

We took this 110# alligator gar bowfishing at Choke Canyon Lake summer of 2001

My Frio County 8 point October 1992. Missed Pope & Young by 2/8"
December 2002 I took this nice 6x6 on a day lease for bow-hunters in LaSalle County South Texas. The first article that I ever had published was about this hunt entitled " Buck on a String"
I got lucky and took this fine fellow deer hunter in December of 1992
My Mexico Buck taken in January 2003
After 20 years of bowhunting, my first P&Y October 1993 taken on our October only lease in Frio County Texas. The Javelina was a bonus as he came in while my buck was expiring.
Another shot of P & Y #1
Pope & Young #2. Taken on our October only lease in Frio County Texas October 2003
Pope and Young # 3 December 2003 Taken on a dayhunting lease for bow-hunters, the Martinena Ranch, Webb County Texas. I was the first person in Texas to take 3 Pope & Young whitetail in a single season. Ray Sasser included a chapter about my season in his book " Texas Whitetail's" 1993-1994. I also was written up in Bowhunter magazine's February / March 1995 Issue, Inside Bowhunting.
I also wrote a couple of articles about my season. The first was titled " The Unbelievable Season" and the second was more specifically about my hunt for the third P&Y of the year entitled " The Quest"
Pope and Young #4 taken on lease in Artesia Wells, LaSalle County Texas
December 2004
4 days later I took Pope & Young #5 on the Martinena Ranch, Webb County Texas December 1994
My daughter Kellie hunted with me a lot in those days.
Here she is with her first and only bow-kill. I don't know who was more surprised, Me, her or the rabbit!
I got really lucky on a spring bear hunt in Saskatchewan June 1995. I was prepared to go home empty handed when I walked up on this monster around noon on my last day. We were helping the outfitter pull out stands since it was the last day of bear season. For the full story read "Canadian Bacon" in my hunting article section. Final Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young score 20 3/16".

Frio County 4x4 October 1995
Frio County 5x5 Pope &Young # 7 October 1995
I finished off the '95 season with this 4x4 taken on the Martinena Ranch in Webb County
I took this fine Axis deer on a free-range hunt in August of 1996 on a Ranch
in Real County, Texas.
I took this nice 5x5 on our Frio County lease October 1996. I didn't know it at the time but this would be our last year on our beloved lease. One of our fellow lease members went to the owners and talked them into letting him start outfitting on their property.
I took this nice 5x5 on my first out of state whitetail hunting November of 1996 on the Blue River Ranch in South Central Oklahoma. I rattled this buck to a decoy set-up after a rare snowstorm. I wrote an article about this hunt titled " Changing Tactics"
I took this 146" buck on my first rifle hunt in several years. I got him on the first day of a two week Mexico hunt. Mary and I had spent the first day setting up and feeding stands for the hunt and decided to unwind by sitting on a rock outcropping watching the sunset and drinking Coronas. I did carry my rifle and a grunt call. I wrote an article about this hunt titled "The Rock King"
I took this nice 6x6 on a hunt on the Countiss Ranch in McMullen County in January of 1997.
I wrote an article about the 96/97 season titled "Still Rambling". I also had accumulated enough video footage at this point to put out my first bowhunting video titled "Whitetail's at Eye level".
In 1998 I was big time into selling my bow-hunting blinds, the Taj Mahal. One of my first customers ran a bowhunting concession on the King Ranch called 4 Arrows Outfitters. Since we had lost our lease in Frio county I agreed to spend the fall of 1997 guiding for him. I did not do much bowhunting myself that year. A friend, Johnnie Walters did buy me a hunt on another part of the King Ranch in trade for some favors I had done for him and I took my largest whitetail to date.
This 158" 5x5 was my 7th Pope & Young whitetail, taken on the King Ranch out of one of my Taj Mahal
blinds October 1997. Mary was in the blind and captured it all on video.
The owner of 4 Arrows Outfitters invited me on a invitational Nalgai hunt in January 1998. I was lucky enough to get to hunt with some of the most famous bowhunters of our time. ( Chuck Adams was invited but did not attend). I was also lucky enough to be the first and one of the few who took a trophy on this hunt.
My time guiding at the King Ranch provided me with tons of great video footage which led to me putting out a second bowhunting video titled " Bowhunting Adventures with Andy Milam"
I took this bear on my 2nd trip to Saskatchewan in June 1998. Mary got the shot on video, and it is on my Bowhunting Adventures video
November 1998
I started doing my own hunting wherever opportunity arose. For several years that was the Pine Springs Ranch in Oklahoma. It was tough going. I was a bit out of my element. I managed to take this big 2x2 while walking in from a morning hunt. I managed to get within 40 yards as he fed through a creek bottom and knew the ranch manager would like him shot.
Some turkey and hogs my buddy Johnnie and I got on the King Ranch.
I did a little better on the Pine Springs Ranch in November of 1999.
I took three bucks in a 1 week hunt and two of them made Pope & Young. It was my third year to hunt there and I had only taken the big 2x2.
The first buck missed Pope & Young due to a brow tine having been broken off.
The second made the book and became my 8th Pope and Young whitetail.
The third also booked and was my 9th Pope & Young. He is also one of my favorite trophy's and
is full body mounted. I wrote an article about this season titled "Oklahoma's OK"
In 2000 I decided to do something different so I put in for New Mexico drawings for Antelope and Elk.
My buddy Johnnie and I had gone on a Mule deer hunt on a ranch that a friend of his owned, in January of 1999. We saw a lot of Antelope in the area. When I got drawn for both Antelope and Elk I was quite excited. I had made plans to hunt the ranch for Mule Deer again in September so Mary and I went there and put up some stands in the middle of the summer. While there I talked to a neighboring rancher and got permission to hunt antelope on his place.
The Antelope hunt was first, August 2000 and I took this Pope & Young buck on the 8th day
of my hunt at 55 yards.
The Mule Deer hunt was next and I took this fine full velvet trophy on the second afternoon.
Last but not least was the Elk hunt. I took this fine Pope & Young bull on the 8th day on public land
hunting over a waterhole. Actually all three were taken on waterhole's. To hear more about the hunt for these animals read my article "Gone Western"
A photo of my elk mount.

In June 2001 I bought an outfitting area in Saskatchewan so my personal album slows down but my albums in the Saskatchewan bear and whitetail trophy galleries are really incredible.
I took this 146" 4x4, my largest 4x4 to date there in November 2001
The following summer after all my clients were done for the year I took a beautiful chocolate boar.
June 2002 my second Pope & Young bear.
It was fall 2003 before I took another whitetail but it's my best buck ever!
November 2003 172" gross 164 5/8 net Boone & Crockett
I shot another buck in 2004 but wish I had let him go for another year. Can't take those bullets back!
